Introducing Emilyn Rose Candles in Japan

One of the most meaningful experiences during my time studying abroad and traveling solo in Japan was introducing Emilyn Rose Candles to the team at SHOLAYERED in Kyoto.

What began as a simple curiosity to explore Japanese fragrances—and a visit to a perfumery that caught my eye because of its beautiful aesthetic—quickly became something much more meaningful: a genuine connection built through a shared passion for fragrance.

As I stepped inside, I was welcomed by Motoki, who introduced me to some of SHOLAYERED's most popular fragrances. As we explored each scent together, our conversation naturally grew beyond perfume. I introduced Emilyn Rose, my luxury candle brand from California, and shared the story behind my business.

A few days later, I returned to thank Motoki for his kindness and brought a set of my candle samples for him to experience. Sharing Emilyn Rose in Japan and seeing my candles appreciated by people who are equally passionate about fragrance became one of the most memorable moments of my trip.

Watching his excitement as he received the gift brought me so much joy.

When Motoki opened the gift box, his eyes immediately widened. He admired the design of my candles before carefully smelling each fragrance. Lavender Blossom quickly became his favorite scent.

Seeing his genuine appreciation for the candles was incredibly rewarding. Standing in Kyoto and watching someone experience a product I had created in California was an unforgettable feeling. Moments like these remind me why I started Emilyn Rose—to create products that bring comfort, happiness, and meaningful moments into people's lives.

I also had the opportunity to introduce my candles to the rest of the SHOLAYERED team. Each person discovered a different favorite fragrance, making the experience even more special.

They understood why Ocean Breeze is my best-selling fragrance, while Rose Essence was another scent that received wonderful feedback. Watching everyone experience the collection with genuine curiosity and enthusiasm was incredibly meaningful.

One of the most inspiring parts of this experience wasn't just learning about fragrance—it was meeting someone who shares the same passion. Motoki shared that his dream is to one day start his own perfume company. Hearing him speak about his goals reminded me of my own journey and reinforced how fragrance has the power to create beauty, comfort, memories, and connection.

My time with SHOLAYERED reminded me that inspiration often comes from unexpected places. What began as a visit to a perfumery became meaningful conversations, a new friendship, and an experience that will continue to inspire the future of Emilyn Rose.

Before I left, Motoki included a handwritten note that read, "Thank you so much! May you become the most famous in the candle world." Those words meant more to me than he probably realized and reminded me that even the smallest acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact.

I am incredibly grateful to the entire SHOLAYERED team for their kindness, generosity, and willingness to share their knowledge with me. As I continue building Emilyn Rose, I hope to carry the inspiration, creativity, and appreciation for craftsmanship that I experienced in Japan into every future collection.
